Family Recipe Collection
What's This About?
Food is such a wonderful thing! Not only does it sustain us, but it enriches our lives. How many times have you tasted a dish and it takes you back to another time and place-- one filled with cherished memories? How many times have you tried to recreate those memorable dishes to find that you can't remember all the ingredients or how they are suppose to intermingle?
This is a food project for my family. My intention is to shorten the distance between us all and share in making memories together. I want us all to add tried and true recipes from past and present generations. Please feel free to add any stories or thoughts to these recipes, too.
When this project is near completion, I hope to have a marvelous collection of recipes that bring us closer together as a family. We'll have an heirloom cookbook of recipes and stories we can pass onto future generations.

I love a good soft sugar cookie that you can use for any occasion. One you can easily frost and take to a playgroup or hand out at the holidays. This one comes from a church friend, Joni.
3/4 c. butter or marg.
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
Mix first four ingredients, blend in rest. Chill at least 1 hour.
Roll dough thick, cut into shapes. Place on ungreased cookie
sheet. Bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes. Dough may seem
a little sticky, buy you can add more flour when you roll it out.

4 1/2 c. powdered sugar
1/4 c. milk

Enjoy!!

Molasses Cookies
This recipe is from the Carolyn Reed's cookbook. They are so soft and yummy and before you know it you've eaten a dozen in one sitting! These are perfect for the Fall and Winter months and not too hard to make.
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
4 Tbls molasses (if you double the recipe use 1/2 cup
1 egg
2 cups of flour
1 tsp. ginger
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
Combine ingredients. Pinch off small walnut-size pieces of dough and roll in sugar. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake in a 350 degree oven for 4-6 minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE if you want them soft and chewy. I think this makes about 2 or three dozen.
